I saw her sleeping peacefully when I returned back to my room this evening. She normally doesn’t sleep at this time. But then I didn’t bother because sleep is a luxury these days and since she was getting it I wanted her to enjoy it. I switched off the lights and went to the kitchen to have something. I am a big foodie and I need to eat something when I come back in the evening. I just can’t help it. Freshening up and changing can wait food first. Though luckily I have a cleanliness freak roomie she doesn’t let me enter the kitchen before freshening. But now that she wasn’t there to shout, I went in like a free bird.
It took me an hour to finish up with my food and other chores. She still hadn’t woken up. I thought I should begin preparing food. I do not possess great culinary skill but whatever I know about cooking I do prepare it well. I did manage fine without her. May be that was because she had done half the work before sleeping.
By now it was dinner time and I thought I should probably wake her up. I went to her side and whispered her name. She didn’t get up. I knew she has a problem with waking up on time. And even though I knew that she won’t wake up till I shout more than five times in her ears, I still whispered. But today it was different she woke up on the second time I called out her name.
She opened her eyes and smiled at me.
“Hey! When did you come? I didn’t realise it’s so late, “she said looking at her wrist watch.
I saw the new wrist watch that had been gifted to her by her boyfriend. Sometimes having a bf is so good, one keeps getting gifts, I thought.
“That’s okay sweet. Freshen up now. Let’s have dinner, I am damn hungry tonight”, this was the hungry me torturing her to get up.
“I am sorry babe but I won’t have dinner though I’ll sit with you at the dining table”, she replied to me. I didn’t find anything wrong with this as she usually skipped dinner.
“ Again?? No…Just have something”, I told her. We were such a contrast. I was a big foodie and she ate the minimum. It looked so peculiar when we sat in a restaurant as I would be one having so much food and she would be stuck with her ice cream for hours.
“Okay. There is no point arguing with you. I’ll have my dinner and you have your ice cream.”
I began eating. She took her butterscotch ice cream. I hate this flavour but she loves it. I don’t know why does half of the population love butterscotch flavour? What’s so great in it?
I kept telling her about the day. She was listening but she wasn’t responding properly. She was way too silent today than she is normally. On a normal day she actively participates in every conversation and laughs so loud that her laughter can be heard in the next door flat too. I waited for the dinner to end.
We came to our room. I asked her, “Is something wrong? You are so silent today”
“No, nothing is wrong.”
“You can share if you want”, I said affectionately.
“No darling. I’m fine. It’s just that I am feeling a little sleepy.”
“Oh! May be then I think we should go to sleep”, I said. Even I was feeling sleepy.
“Hmmm….Good night”, she replied.
“Good night”, saying so I moved to my bed.
It had been an hour since I had been sleeping. I woke up to have water. I could hear her sobs. She was weeping silently saying to herself, “Why do you do this everytime? I love you”. I didn’t make a move. I should at least give her peace to bury her pains.
She had finally learnt to silently bear her RELATIONSHIP WOES which had once been the “RELATIONSHIP VOWS”
